Cup & Saucer Set in Lichen Magic

I have always had an affinity for a cup & saucer set. Perhaps it’s that I always love a fun matching set. Or perhaps its harkening back to childhood tea parties ~ creating unique potions to share. Or perhaps it’s the curvaceous aesthetic allowing tea to cool quickly enough to drink, or to maximize marshmallows in hot chocolate. Whatever the reason, I adore this cup & saucer set and I’m excited to share it with you!

I don’t think you can live in the PNW and not be at least a little in love with the magic that is lichen in the forest! And when this glaze combo came out of the kiln I knew it was a winner, and I couldn’t stop thinking about how much it reminded me of all of the amazing shades of lichen you discover in the forest!

This makes a great gift when paired with a box of tea, or some hot chocolate. Or even some tinctures from your favorite apothecary!

Every piece you see on this site or in person at a market are all hand thrown on a wheel by Aby. Each piece is individually and lovingly crafted. The same goes for the design work you see on each piece. While they all have a similar flavor, every design is individually crafted for that piece making it a unique piece of art. 

The design work is created to accentuate and showcase the clay body. I have traveled all over the world doing artist residencies and have been fortunate to use clay all over the world. And around 2016 I realized that for me it didn’t make sense to use all of this unique clay all over the world - and then cover it with glaze. So I started minimizing my glaze work, and adding in design work to not only make the form shine, but also the clay body I’m using. 

I have been working with clay for 17 years. I have an incredibly deep respect and knowledge of the material. My design work is directly intended to make the clay body shine. 

Because each and every piece you see on the site is hand thrown, all products are one of a kind. 

I also use a mid range porcelain that is fired to mid range temperature (2200 degrees!) what this means for you is that the pieces are fully vitrified ~ think fully hardened! That makes these pieces very strong and durable.
