Kintsugi & Reducing Waste in Ceramics
If you purchase a piece and notice a small patch of gold ~ congratulations! You have gotten a “Gaia’s Kiss”. What this means is that the kintsugi has been used to make a cosmetic touch up on a piece that otherwise might have been thrown out. Please note that while I am in fact trained in traditional kintsugi, I do not use traditional kintsugi methods to make these touch ups due to the fact that traditional kintsugi lacquer contains an element that is similar to poison oak and it is possible for people to have an allergic reaction to this element.
So to be extra safe I use a traditional kintsugi alternative that will not cause any allergic interactions. Please not that this in NO WAY AFFECTS the functionality of the piece you have purchased. It can still be used, microwaved, and dishwashed as normal.
I will also NEVER use this method to make a structural repair. These are purely cosmetic fixes that simply make the final product more appealing. But it is is no way used to “fix” the piece. This is a purely aesthetic choice on my part.
