Bridgetown Sparrow Ceramics is a woman-owned hand thrown pottery business based in Portland, Oregon dedicated to bringing you the most aesthetically beautiful, functional, and unique pottery possible.

Aby’s one-of-a-kind aesthetic came about over 20 years of experimentation. That is where Aby’s aesthetic was born. She started to expose more and more of the clay body to accentuate the medium that she is working with. After two decades working in ceramics her knowledge and respect of the clay body goes deep. Her design work is a way of acknowledging and respecting this special medium. Every design is individually crafted for each piece making it a unique piece of art.

SIGILS & RUNES

Sigils and runes go back to the beginning of human civilization. These markings were used to tell stories, share information, and communicate. But even from the start they were never strictly utilitarian. They were used not only as divination but also to mark items, books, people, homes to imbue them with power. They were there to provide guidance, wisdom, and protection.

Many cultures use this symbology. But part of what is so special about them is your own creativity and intention. They are intended as a base language that the creator then alters and creates with and imbues with their own intentions. And then that intention is shared out into the world.

When I sit down to create the design work on my pieces I start by clearing the space as well as my own energy. Then I meditate and start to let the creative process move through me. I truly believe that in many ways I am picking up on energy that people are putting out into the world. My pieces almost always find their homes very quickly and I believe that is because the buyer is calling that energy and intention into their life, I am simply picking up on it and reflecting it back to them.
